Fuerteventura is located in the Atlantic Ocean and is one of the seven Spanish Canary Islands that lie 280 miles south of the island of Madeira off the coast of West Africa. Fuerteventura is the second most easterly of the Canary Islands and is a mere sixty miles from the coast of Morocco.

The island of Fuerteventura is of an irregular shape and a quick glimpse at a map of this island will clearly illustrate this. Fuerteventura is only 100km in length from top to toe and is a just over thirty kilometres wide, yet the island is divided into six municipalities, which contain 152 beaches, which are composed of over fifty kilometres of fine white sand beaches and just over twenty five kilometres of black volcanic shingle beaches.
